Canteen was made by taking a strip of wood and bending it around two end pieces until it overlaps itself and tacking it in place. A hole was then cut in the strip and a pewter spout added. The whole thing was painted red and decorated on one side with 13 five-pointed stars in three lines above a spread winged eagle and what appears to be the initials “M.C.” inside a diamond on the other. Canteen meas. approx. 6.25 across and 2.25 inches wide. All decoration was done in black paint. The body of the eagle is very light but the wings and the stars are still visible. The diamond on the other side meas. approx. 5.50 inches across with a five-pointed star in each corner. The letters meas. approx. .75 of an inch high. The three sling keepers are present but are no more than thing pieces of wire. There are no cracks, chips or breaks in the canteen.
