The badge features crossed cannon and anchor engraved on brass shield, measuring .875" x .875". Replaced pin on the reverse. Shield lightly tarnished. Else VG.
CDV backmark: "From/ Lobell General Hospital, U.S.A/ Portsmouth Grove, R.I./ Address, "J.A. Williams, Post Office/ Box 507, Newport, R.I." / The negative of this Picture is preserved for two years." Five soldier grouping, with likely 9th Corps affiliations. The group arranged in a frontal pose, w/ three seated and two standing behind. While all are in uniform, they are informally dressed and only two are wearing their sack coats. The soldier seated to the left wears a kepi, while the other four are in slouch hats. The soldier standing to the left is wearing an anchor shaped badge-quite likely a 9th corps badge-pinned to his breast just below the collar. Given the hospital backmark, it is probable that these soldiers were visiting wounded friends and decided to take advantage of the opportunity to having their photo taken, quite possibly for free. The CDV is lightly soiled on both sides, the image itself is relatively sharp and clear. Good display piece.
