This is the bridle leather shoulder sling for the U.S. infantry cartridge box. Measures 2 1/8” wide and approximately 66” long. The leather is pliable and supple with some cracking and loss to the finish. This piece was on a cartridge box at one time. It is “cut” for an eagle breast plate and shows wear and “curl” to the ends where it was buckled in place.
A scarce “accessory” to the standard Civil War infantryman’s leather cartridge box. [jet]
