Brown leather, 48” in length, 1.25” in width. Leather exhibits cracking throughout, while remaining supple and smooth. Stitching remaining tight on both hook and slip-loop ends. Partially legible maker mark near loop end: “W. H. _____ / Maker / Sprinfield ____”. Inspector’s mark in oval reads, “G. L. WOODBURY / U.S. ORD. DEPT. / SUB INSPECTOR”. Reverse side exhibits unusual ink inscription running half the length of the belt. To wit: “Remember this gun on the river, remember it on the lake…remember it when it gets lost and found…and please remember it to Jake Buttenkleffer.”
