Item is made of two leather Civil War slings sewn together.
The sling has a sewn keeper at one end and a brass hook on the other.
Sling meas. approx. 1.25 inches wide x 63.00 inches long. Approx. 21.00 inches from the hook end there are three parallel lines of stitching showing where the two slings were sewn together.
The single loose sliding keeper is also present.
Several marks are visible. Stamped in the leather near the hook end is the name “A. R. SMITH.” The end with the sewn keeper has a U. S. sub-inspector’s mark.
Leather is pliable with some light surface crazing. [ad]
