This belt was prescribed for wear by Infantry NCO’s along with the artillery short sword in 1832 and lasted until the Model 1840 NCO sword and baldric were introduced.
This Model 1832 belt is of the Foot Artillery pattern and is made of white buff leather that has been dyed dark on the outside. The leather of the belt is in very good condition. The frog which hangs on the left side and supports the sword is also made of leather and is in good condition as well. On the right side of the belt are the brass adjustment buckle and a sliding leather keeper. Also present is a leather tongue which passes behind the belt plate. The two piece belt plate is the Model 1834 Infantry pattern that is held closed by an “S” hook between two round plates. One plate has the standard spread-winged eagle while the other just has a simple “US” which replaced the “US” with stacked muskets that was on the 1832 pattern Infantry buckle.
The belt does show some signs of use. The back side of the frog shows signs of markings that have been blacked out and there is some scattered light wear overall.
This is an interesting belt that was used for only a short time.
