Early (1840-1850) Navy officer's belt rig. The belt and traces (sword hangers) are made of folded and stitched  leather. Complete with two sliding belt loops. Stitching on the leather portions is mostly solid and unbroken. The tongue and wreath belt plate is an excellent example of an early Navy buckle; both halves with matching "13" bench mark. All other brass components are present and in good shape: ring, trace buckles, snap-hooks, "J" hook, and adjuster buckle. The belt is in overall great condition; soft and pliable. There are some cracks and wrinkles. The two traces here are made differently; the leather sewn around a rope or cord giving them a round shape. For some unknown reason both traces have been "knotted", which has caused a loss of finish on portions. The traces are also unusual in that they have brass adjustable buckles. This rig is complete with all leather and brass components and is a very displayable Navy belt.   [JET]
