Fantastic condition buff leather sword belt. The exterior leather surfaces are very clean and in excellent condition. The leather is strong and supple with no weak spots. The shoulder support strap (Sam Brown belt) is present and is original to the belt and is in matching excellent condition. Both the sword traces (hangers) are present and match condition perfectly. All hardware is present as well including snap-swivel hooks on the hangers. The white interior surface of the leather shows some surface dirt from age and storage. There is a faint maker’s mark: “J. DAVY & CO / NEWARK NJ”. The belt plate is the Pattern 1851 NCO plate with applied German silver wreath. The keeper has a bench mark “524” while the plate is unmarked.
This item is a terrific example of a Civil War cavalry sword-belt.
