Bridle leather belt approx. 1.75 inches wide with a heavily tarred surface as is typical of leather items from the 1840’s & 50’s.
Leather is in excellent condition. It is a little stiff due to the tar but it still moves freely and has no tears or surface wear. The belt has one free moving leather keeper.
The interior of the belt has a thin strip of leather with adjustment holes that fastens to a small japanned iron buckle sewn to the middle back of the belt. Moving this strip of leather will adjust the belt for size. This interior adjustment strip is also in good condition.
Belt has a tongue and wreath buckle. The tongue is of sandcast brass with a spread-winged eagle with a patriotic shield on its chest at center. Wreath portion is also sandcast and is decorated with laurel leaves.
Both the belt and the plate have an unissued appearance. [ad]
