Box is in good used condition.
The outer flap has a worn and crazed surface with minor finish loss around the edges. Lower right corner has sub-inspectors mark. “US ORD DEPT. SUBINSPECTOR” is readable but not the inspector’s name. Latch tab is present and held in place by an arched line of stitching and a copper rivet. The surface of the tab has some surface light finish loss but it is solid.
The inner flap is in good condition with both ears. The face of the flap has a maker’s mark that reads “W. H. WILKINSON, MAKER, SPIGFLD, MASS.” The body of the box under the inner flap is very good and is complete with the implement pocket.
The wooden block is present on the inside and holds twenty .52 cartridges.
The bottom of the box has both roller buckles and a pear-shaped brass finial.
Back has both belt loops and a strip of leather along the top which acts as a sling loop.
