The exterior leather flap is in nice condition with a smooth face and little wear. Latch tab is good.
Larger than normal inner flap is in nice shape but is missing one ear. Large oval maker’s mark reads “HOOVER, CALHOUN & CO. MAKERS NEW-YORK.”
Interior has no lamb’s wool or pick. The inner body of the box is solid but is suffering from much surface finish loss. Bottom has brass finial.
Reverse has two strong belt loops.
Hoover, Calhoun & Co. had many contracts for accoutrements in 1864 and 1865. [ad]
