REGULATION 1861 CARTRIDGE BOX

$140.00 SOLD
Originally $175.00

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1032-17

This cartridge box is an example of the "Pattern 1861” infantry cartridge box. Outer flap exhibits some scuffing and crazing. Flap is cut for an oval “US” box plate, but plate is gone. Closing tab appears to be a period replacement. It is complete and unbroken. Tab is sewn to the underside of the flap. The inner flap is unmarked. This flap covers two cartridge tins that remain, but several of the dividers are missing. This inner flap retains both “ears” that are tightly attached. The implement pouch is present and complete. The stitching on the body of the box is tight and unbroken.  Belt straps are sewn and riveted.  Brass finial on the bottom.  Iron buckles were removed.

Box measures approximately 8” x 2” x 5” (for the .69 cal. elongated ball). The two tin inserts held musket cartridges.  Leather is somewhat stiff and shows use, but a complete and reasonably priced .69 caliber cartridge box.   [jet]
