This knapsack meas. approx. 15.50 inches wide x 13.25 inches high x 4.50 inches deep (exterior measurements). The knapsack is constructed with a wood frame covered by painted canvas.

The back flap is held closed by three straps attached along the bottom edge. These straps fasten to three studs attached to the bottom of the pack. All three straps are present but split.

Across the top of the pack are six leather keepers arranged in three rows of two each. These leather keepers were meant for use with blanket straps which are now gone.

The back side of the knapsack has a number “9” in white paint. This number meas. approx. 4.00 inches tall x 3.00 inches wide. There are no shoulder suspension straps present.

Along the bottom edge were four roller buckles, two facing forward and two facing back. Only three of these are present now. Also in this area is painted “Co. A” and “21.” These numbers and letters are approx. 1.00 inch high x 1.25 inches wide with the letter “o” being slightly smaller.

The interior has a bag on the underside of the outer flap and two inner flaps that are held closed by two small roller buckles and straps. The cloth body of the bag is about 80% there while the inner flaps only retain the two roller buckles.

The overall condition of the knapsack is good. There are some creases to the outer surface of the back flap and a 3 inch tear at the top hinge.
