A very scarce US Marine Corps 1912 pattern holster. Designed for mounted use, the 1912 pattern holsters for the 1911 Colt .45 automatic had long suspensions and a swivel to keep the holster vertical even when the wearer was on horseback. This is the “long drop” version intended for dismounted use that omits the swivel but retains the long strap holding the belt hook. This scarce holster rates very good, with a deep brown finish to the leather that has just a bit of wrinkling from flexing and minor wear on the back at points where it would rub. All the finish is present with just one or two small flecks along the leading edge of the body, all of which would color down very easily.

The holster also still has its original leg strap and, as a bonus, there is an original owner’s name in ink on the underside of the flap. A little patience and the right light might establish an interesting history. As it is, this is a very good example of a scarce USMC holster used from 1912 right through the end of World War One.  [sr]
