Gored petticoat made from crisp finely-woven light-weight cotton muslin is constructed with a fitted waistband with hook-and-eye closures. Self-fabric loops attached to the waistband allow the petticoat to be hung from a hook or peg. The gathered skirt is constructed with run-and-fell seams. The lower ⅓ of the petticoat is embellished with an elaborate pattern of vertical cotton lace insertions spaced between vertical tucks. Five spaced horizontal tucks are sewn below the vertical insertions and above the hem, and the lower edge is finished with a fine cotton lace edging. A separate plain underskirt made from the same fabric is attached behind the decorative section of the petticoat. A tuck conceals 25 ¼" diameter mother-of-pearl buttons and hand-sewn buttonholes.
