Presented here is a pair of original wooden drumsticks used by military musicians during the Civil War era. Constructed of hard walnut or mahogany, both of these unmarked, cylindrical, tight-grained specimens are finely turned wooden accoutrements that measure 17” long and are painted black. Base of each stick measures almost ½” in diameter and tapers to a turned, finial-shaped tip ¼” in diameter. Both sticks exhibit slight dings and dents but no cracks or splits. Both show no scuffing near the drum tip but one tip exhibits a crack above the finial.
