Civil War period cup of tinned sheet iron and matching carrying case. These collapsible cup sets were available to soldiers and officers alike through camp sutlers and private purchase at various stores.  The cup, fully extended, measures 2 ¾” and is 2 ½”in diameter. The tin carrying case measures 1 ½” in height by 2 ¾” in diameter and had been originally painted with a dark “Japanned” lacquer finish. The cup still retains 95% of its original silvered-tin surface. No manufactures marking are noted. Perfect item to add to your Officer’s haversack or mess kit display.
