Very nice locket of the pocket watch pattern. The locket meas. approx. 1.50 inches across. Both the front and back lids open to reveal the photos inside.
The front lid is chased with a linear decoration at center surrounded by five waves of scrolls with a decorative riband at center engraved “LOUISE.” Opening the lid reveals a tintype of a young girl in her twenties with long hair and wearing a dark dress. Image is clear and the contrast is good.
The opposite lid has the same decoration as the front but at the center is an engraved scene of a house in a field with mountains in the background. Opening this lid reveals a trimmed CDV bust view of a Union officer in a dark frock coat. Image is bright and clear.
The body of the locket is heavily engraved with a deep floral decoration. Even the stem and “O” ring at top are engraved.
Very nice keepsake of a soldier and his lady. [AD]
