Housewife is built around a cylindrical shaped pin cushion that meas. approx. 3.25 inches long x 1.25 inch wide.
Wrapped around this cushion is a strip of green and white striped silk meas. approx. 11.25 inches long x 3.25 inches wide. This material is backed in a thin brown leather with sewn brown cloth borders.
The interior has a pocket for buttons and two white wool tabs outlined in green thread for holding sewing needles, several of which are present.
The housewife was closed by rolling the cloth around the cushion and tying it in place. String ties are gone.
Many of these found their way into soldier’s haversacks. [ad]
