Base is made of burl wood from historic Lookout Mountain. Flat section of wood is etched with, “LOOKOUT MT”. Glass inkwell has a fluted design and hinged lid. Inkwell fits nicely in the wood base, but is not attached.

Desk sets were a popular souvenir collectable in the years after the war, as battlefields became tourist attractions.

Lookout Mountain is a mountain ridge located at the northwest corner of the state of Georgia, the northeast corner of Alabama, and along the Tennessee state line in Chattanooga. Lookout Mountain was the scene of the November 24, 1863 Battle of Lookout Mountain during the Civil War.

Measures approx. 7” x 5’ at widest points.

This item is a very unique early souvenir of a Civil War battlefield site. [SL]
