Polished rectangular walnut box, 10 x 8 x 3.25.” Interior compartments, w/velvet covered, fold-down, lift-up lids; for paper & and writing utensils. Brass front lock is missing. Blank brass plate - 1.375” x .75” -centered on outer, upper lid. Outer box exhibits light wear, as do the interior, velvet covered lids. In all an extremely handsome Civil War period lap desk that might have been included in an officer’s personal baggage. An attractive collectible.  [jp]
