Ferrotypes were commonly used in the 1860 and 1864 campaigns for small campaign pins and buttons. This brass button features a ferrotype image of Lincoln with his name, “A. LINCOLN” above the image. Button shows a ring of stars circling the image and is patent dated “1861” on the side. Original attachment hook/pin on reverse is missing. Measures 7/8” in circumference. Brass is shiny and bright and image is clear. Items such as this that feature ferrotypes are the most valuable campaign collectibles. [sm]
