Standing in front of a Headquarters tent are what appear to be the NCO’s and Officers from a Company in the 21st New York State Militia. All together there are 16 men in the photo. 3 officers, 1 First Sergeant, 1 Quartermaster Sergeant, 4 Sergeants and 7 Corporals. All the enlisted men are wearing 5 button sack coats with collar piping like the Model 1874 coat. Their belts have the 1880-1900 “SNY” rectangular belt plates. All are wearing what appear to be the Model 1872 kepi with the numerals “21” on the front. The three officers are wearing a variation of the 1884 pattern “ulster”, however this coat stops at the waist instead of below the knee. They are wearing the Model 1860 Field and Staff Officer’s sword attached to a hook sewn directly on the coat. They are not wearing any belts. The officer’s kepis have crossed rifles with regimental number on front. Image size is 6.50 x 8.25. It is in a modern frame with mat that meas. approx. 14.75 x 12.00. Photo is crisp and clear
