Beautiful CDV album has brown leather cover with gold, red and green embossed design on the front. Leather is in good condition, with some wear on the spine and corners. There is a small tear in the leather at the top of the spine. All pages are present and intact. The edges of the pages are gold gilt which has retained its brightness. The album closes with a decorative gold colored metal clasp which is still firmly attached.
Album contains 43 images. There are a variety of men, women and children of all ages. Many of the pages have names written on the borders. Men are in civilian attire, with the exception of one soldier in Union uniform. There are individuals as well as couples posing together. One image is of four ladies.
The name “Elizabeth Akins Bailey” is written in ink inside the front cover. The majority of the individuals in the images are identified. Family names include Akins, Bailey, Langdon, Stanley, Case, McKechnie, Wood, Rockwell, Haynes, Hudson and Culver. The man in uniform is identified as Samuel Wood; image has no backmark. Backmarks include Canandaigua, NY and Seneca Falls, NY.
Album measures approx. 6” x 5” x 2”.
This is a great album for a collector of civilian images and may prove to be an interesting genealogical research project.
