CDV album has brown leather cover with embossed design on the front and back. Leather is in good condition, with some wear all over, but especially on the spine, edges and corners.
Album has a printed ivory vellum lining on inside of front and back covers. Pages are loose but all are present. There is a title page labeled, “THE PHOTOGRAPHIC ALBUM / NEW YORK”. The edges of the pages are gold gilt which has retained its brightness. Album has two decorative gold colored plates on front cover that originally attached to clasps, which are no longer present. One plate on reverse is missing as well.
Album contains 25 images. There is space for 30 images. There are a variety of men, women and children of all ages. Men are in civilian attire. These images are mostly of individuals. A number of the CDVS have New York and Connecticut backmarks. Most are Civil War era.
Album measures approx. 5” x 6” x 1 ¾”.
This is a great album for a collector of Civil War era civilian images. There are a few post-war images as well. [sm]
