Post-war bust view in coat, vest and bow tie. Printed on the bottom border of the mount is, “ALPHONSO D. LEATHERS, Co. D”. Photographer’s advertisement on entire reverse of mount – “Miller / Main Gallery / Birmingham / Conn.” Period ink inscription around margins of reverse: “Alphonso D. Leathers / Co D 2 Reg N. H / Vol Durham, N. H. / Feb. the 25 = 1889.”

Overall very good condition; light scattered soiling. Half moon impression on lower edge  of mount.

Leathers was a 19 year old resident of Palmyra, ME when he enlisted as a Private on 5/10/61. On 6/1/61 he mustered into Co. D, 2nd NH Infantry. Listed as a POW on 7/21/61 at Bull Run; confined at Richmond, VA 7/23/61 (estimated day; sent to New Orleans, LA). Promoted to Corporal 9/1/63. Mustered out as a Private on 6/21/64. After the war he resided in Dover, NH.  He died in 1928 and is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery in Dover.  [ld]
