Bust view wearing civilian clothing, and a humdinger of a moustache. Printed on a label attached at the bottom of the image is “J. H. WHICHER, Co. E.” Period ink inscription on reverse, partially covered by the label extending from the front of the card: “J. H. Whicher / Co. E, 2nd N.H. Vol.” Handwritten backmark: “P. Webster Jeffrey, Artist, Roston.”

Overall good condition. Light scattered staining / foxing.

Whicher, born in Quincy, MA, was a 21 year old resident of Hopkinton, NH when he enlisted as a Private on 5/21/61. On 6/3/61 he mustered into Co. E, 2nd NH Infantry. Listed as wounded on 5/5/62 at Williamsburg, VA; discharged for wounds on 9/24/63 at Fairfax Seminary Hospital, VA. After the war he was a member of GAR Post #15 in Boston, MA. He died in Boston in 1918 and is buried in Mount Wollaston Cemetery in Quincy, MA.  [ld]
