Backmark: “Photographed by/ LE RUE LEMER/ Wyeth’s Hall/ Harrisburg, PA..” Front lower margin inked inscription: “J.W. Geary Gov. of Pennsylvania.” Clean, crisp bust image with the very slightest of soiling. Else VG plus. Politican/general John W. Geary [1818-1873] enjoyed an extensive, wide-ranging career, serving as one time Mayor of San Francisco and territorial Governor of Kansas, and two post-war terms as Governor of Pennsylvania. During the Civil War he was promoted to Union divisional command, was present at Gettysburg, and later distinguished himself during Sherman’s Atlanta Campaign. Definitely collectible.
