Back-mark: “Photographed by Wenderoth & Taylor/ Published by McAllister & Bro./ No. 728 Chestnut Street”. Bust view on mount card that has been trimmed to that has been trimmed to 2.375 x 3”. Reverse penciled inscription: “Gen. T.L. Kane/ belongs to Col. Geo. Meade/ 205 Walnut place, Phila. Image is crisp and clear, w/slight soiling at the margins & slight rubbing on the reverse. Else VG, in protective plastic sheath.

Thomas Leiper Kane recruited the famous Pennsylvania “Bucktails” [13th PA Reserves/ 42nd PA Vols.] Appointed Brigadier General he commanded a 12th Corps Brigade at Chancellorsville, where he fell ill. Leaving his sick bed he arrived in Gettysburg and took command of his brigade of July 2, 1863, and was later brevetted to Major General of Volunteers for his services in that battle. Kane, however, had been forced to resign from service for health reasons in November 1863, and the promotion was merely honorary. Fine card, as Kane CDVs are scarce.
