CDV is a waist-up view of James W. Benedict. He is wearing a dark colored jacket with shoulder boards and a light colored vest.
Reverse has the photographer’s imprint which reads, “S.M. TOWLES, LATE PAYNE’S PHOTOGRAPHIC GALLERY, WARWICK, ORANGE CO., N.Y.”.
Image is clear and the contrast is good. Surface has some light dirt from age.
James W. Benedict enlisted at the age of 32, on August 16, 1862 at Goshen, NY as a Captain. On September 10, 1862 he mustered into Co. “D”, 124th New York Infantry. He was mustered out on June 3, 1865 at Washington D.C. He was listed as wounded on May 12, 1864 at Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia. On January 11, 1865 he received a promotion to Major.
