Waist up engraving of James Buchanan in a dark civilian suit with a white shirt and high collar.
Image is good but a bit grainy. Top edge has a small spot of foxing. Mount has red border.
Reverse has a modern ID in pencil with a back mark of a multistoried building and E. ANTHONY.
A Pennsylvanian by birth and a lawyer by profession he is often listed among the bottom tier of Presidents. Mr. Buchanan did little when South Carolina seceded and handed a country in shambles to President-elect Abraham Lincoln in 1861. [ad]
