Reverse has photographer’s backmark, “WM. H. ABBOTT, FOX BLOCK, LITTLE FALLS, N.Y.“ and hand written inscription that reads, “CONRAD METZ, GRANDFATHER’S BROTHER - WENT TO SO. AMERICA AFTER CIVIL WAR. HE NEVER CAME BACK AND GRANDFATHER GRADUALLY LOST TOUCH WITH HIM. (INITIALS) 1960”.
Conrad Metz enlisted at the age of 42 on 10/22/1861 at Salisbury Centre, NY as a Private. On 12/11/1861 he mustered into "D" Co. NY 97th Infantry. He was discharged for disability (date not stated) at Georgetown, D.C. [sl]
