Image is a vignette bust view of Captain Edward H. Pinney in uniform. Image is a bit grainy but is otherwise good. The photographer highlighted the uniform buttons and shoulder straps with ink. Beneath the image is a period ink inscription that is a bit worn. It reads “E. H. PINNEY CAPT. 143RD N. Y. VOLS.”

Image has some light surface dirt and the mount corners are clipped.

Reverse is blank.

Edward H. Pinney was born in Bethel, New York on October 4, 1823. During the pre-war years he taught school, ran a hotel, farmed and when the war came was practicing law in Jeffersonville.

Now 39 years old, Pinney was commissioned Captain of Company F, 143rd New York Infantry on August 14, 1862. While with the regiment he saw action at Wauhatchie, Missionary Ridge, Resaca, Dallas, Peach Tree Creek, Atlanta, Natural Bridge, Averysboro and Bentonville.

Pinney was mustered out on July 20, 1865 and promoted to Major on July 24, 1865 but was never mustered.

After his discharge he returned to the practice of the law. He died on September 8, 1912 and is buried in Liberty Cemetery, Liberty, New York.
