Very nice CDV sized etching of Robert E. Lee as he looked at the start of the war. He is shown with dark hair and mustache and in the uniform of a United States colonel. View is from the waist up.
Image has excellent clarity and contrast. Mount has a red border and is in good condition. Bottom of the mount has a period pencil inscription that reads “GENL LEE OF ARLINGTON.”
Reverse has a partially obscured imprint for E. ANTHONY. CDV was once pasted in an album and residue of the album page blocks some of the imprint. [AD]
