Bust view of Richard Pearson of Company K, 6th US Cavalry wearing a dark coat with a military vest, white shirt and bowtie.
Contrast is a bit on the light side but the clarity is good. Paper and mount are good but the paper has ink smudges under the subject as well as some light surface dirt and the mount has edge dirt.
Reverse has photographer’s imprint for W. H. POPE…BROOKLYN. There is also a period pencil ID that is partly obscured by ink spots. It reads in part “CORPL. RICHARD PEARSON CO. K, 6th US CAVALRY. DISCHRGED ??? HOME-ENGLAND.”
The 6th US Cavalry served with the Army of the Potomac and the Army of the Shenandoah. They were engaged at Brandy Station, Upperville, Fairfield, Gettysburg and North Anna.
During its service the regiment lost 3 officers and 156 enlisted men killed, died of wounds and disease. [ad]
