CDV is of Theron Z. Gibbs posed with one hand resting on a chair and the other by his side and holding his slouch hat. Gibbs wears a dark frock coat with 1st lieutenant of staff shoulder straps and dark trousers.
Clarity and contrast are excellent. Paper and mount are good.
Reverse has photographer’s imprint for B. P. PAIGE…WASHINGTON, D.C. Left edge has period pencil ID “T. J. GIBBS, M.D.”
Theron Zadock Gibbs was born in Cornwall, Vermont in 1826. He was commissioned asst. surgeon of the 15th New York Engineers on July 20, 1862 and was made surgeon on August 1, 1863.
The 15th New York Engineers served with the Army of the Potomac and was with them throughout the war.
Gibbs was mustered out on June 14, 1865.
After the war he practiced medicine and surgery in Fort Ann until 1897, when he was killed there in a railroad accident. [ad]
