Image shows Warren Tapley in a dark frock coat with captain’s shoulder straps.
Clarity and contrast are very good. Paper and mount have light surface dirt around the edges. Bottom of the mount has a light period pencil inscription that reads “WARREN TAPLEY.”
Reverse has photographer’s imprint for BUSHBY & HART…LYNN, MASS. Reverse also has collector information in pencil. There is also a 2 cent tax stamp dating the image from 1864-1866.
Warren Tapley was born in Charlestown, Massachusetts on August 31, 1815.
On April 20, 1861 Tapley was commissioned assistant surgeon of the 8th Massachusetts Infantry and mustered out on August 1, 1861.
After the war he was in the drug business in Boston where he was a member of Post #5 of the GAR. Tapley died in Lynn on July 24, 1904 and is buried there in Pine Grove Cemetery.
During Tapley’s time with the 8th Massachusetts they did duty in Baltimore and Washington, D.C. as well as some railroad repairs between the two cities. [AD]
