Clarity and contrast are very good. Paper and mount have light surface dirt around the edges. Bottom of the mount has a light period pencil inscription that reads “WARREN TAPLEY.”

Reverse has photographer’s imprint for BUSHBY & HART…LYNN, MASS. Reverse also has collector information in pencil. There is also a 2 cent tax stamp dating the image from 1864-1866.

Warren Tapley was born in Charlestown, Massachusetts on August 31, 1815.

On April 20, 1861 Tapley was commissioned assistant surgeon of the 8^th Massachusetts Infantry and mustered out on August 1, 1861.

After the war he was in the drug business in Boston where he was a member of Post #5 of the GAR. Tapley died in Lynn on July 24, 1904 and is buried there in Pine Grove Cemetery.

During Tapley’s time with the 8^th Massachusetts they did duty in Baltimore and Washington, D.C.  as well as some railroad repairs between the two cities.    [AD]
