Waist up seated view of Major General John Pope. This is and E. Anthony print from a Brady negative and it is so marked on the back. Pope is shown as a Major General. His uniform has been touched up by the photographer giving the uniform the appearance of being drawn but the image was definitely taken from life. Period ink inscription on the back reads “Maj. Gen. Pope. U.S.A.”
John Pope graduated from West Point in 1842, served in the Mexican War and is best known as the commander the Union Army of Virginia in the disastrous 2nd Bull Run Campaign.
