Contrast is a little light. Kearny is shown as a Brigadier General. Period ink inscription along bottom reads “Major. Gen. Phillip Kearny, U.S.A.” Back mark is R. W. Addis, Washington, D. C.
Kearny served in the Mexican War where he lost his left arm. In the Civil War he commanded a Division of the III Corps which he led at Williamsburg, Fair Oaks and throughout the Peninsula Campaign. During the retreat from 2nd Bull Run Kearny was killed during a rear guard action at Chantilly, Virginia on September 1, 1862.
