OUTDOOR VIEW OF LOVELL GENERAL HOSPITAL, PORTSMOUTH GROVE, RHODE ISLAND

$250.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1054-938

Image shows the exterior of a building with a woman standing in the doorway. Lined up along the side of the building are two privates, a 1st Sergeant, three Sergeants and what looks like a young boy in uniform. All wear forage caps and dark frock coats and light trousers. The 1st Sergeant as well as two of the others wear an infantry hunting horn with a single number on the front of their caps, however, they are too far away to make out the numeral. The boy soldier on the end of the line wears a stamped brass oak wreath on the front of his cap and he also wears a shell jacket.

Image is very clear with excellent contrast.

Reverse has imprint that reads “FROM LOVELL GENERAL HOSPITAL, U.S.A. PORTSMOUTH GROVE, R.I….”

Reverse also has a period ink inscription that reads “ADDIE A. SEARLE” and under that “S. G. L.”

Census records do show an Addie A. Searle born in 1842 and living in Providence, Rhode Island but nothing else could be found out about her.  [ad]
