The unknown subject of this image is posed leaning against the back of a chair. He wears a dark 10-button shell jacket and light trousers. The midriff buttons are undone to reveal a bright white shirt. Piping on the cuff appears to be of a dark color.
Image has good clarity and contrast. Mount has light surface dirt and the paper has a few scattered dark spots. One is on the left cheek of the subject but it does not really hurt the presentation of the image.
Reverse is blank but does have a canceled 2 cent tax stamp. The presence of the stamp would date the printing of the photo between 1864 and 1866. [ad]
