CDV view is of a soldier posing by a draped column with his right hand resting on his hip.
The unknown subject wears a dark frock coat open to reveal a matching dark vest. He also wears light trousers with a thick dark leg stripe. Upon close examination dark Sergeant Stripes are visible on the right sleeve. The dark color of the stripes seems to indicate that they are red in color which would indicate this soldier is an artilleryman.
Image has outstanding clarity and contrast. Paper and mount are excellent.
Reverse has photographer’s imprint for WHITEHURST GALLERY…WASHINGTON, D.C.
No doubt this Sergeant was stationed with one of the heavy artillery regiments defending the Capital. [ad]
