WONDERFUL OUTDOOR QUARTER PLATE AMBROTYPE OF A YOUNG FAMILY BELIEVED TO BE AT A FUNERAL

$175.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 890-78

Crisp, clear, good quality ambrotype of what appears to be four brothers with their wives and or sweethearts. All eight subjects stand in a field on the edge of a farm or town that is barely visible in the background. The group looks to be standing on a board at the edge of a depression in the ground. It is thought this may be a family photo taken at a funeral.

All but one of the men wear dark civilian suits with the fourth man standing at rear wearing either a linen coat or just his shirt. All of the men are bareheaded with one fellow at front holding a slouch hat in his hand. Three of the four women wear lighter colored dresses while the fourth wears a light plaid. Two of the women have vails on their heads and three wear shawls.

Image comes housed in a full leather case with decorative brass frame and mat. Hinge of case is original and not repaired.  [ad]
