Image is a three-quarter sitting view of a soldier. He is wearing a nine-button frock coat with stand-up collar, trousers, and kepi.
Image is mostly clear with good contrast, but oxidation has occurred on face of the soldier.
There is a hand written inscription on the paper lining of case behind image that reads, “REV. B.F. BLACKMON, MILAN, TENN”, who was a soldier in the 7th Tennessee Cavalry. We believe this case was reused, as the uniform this soldier is wearing is not correct to be Blackmon.
Image is housed in a full gutta percha case. Some cracking is present around hinges. Case is lined in embossed red velvet. Decorative brass mat surrounds image. [sl]
