This is a waist up view of a man who is posed with five women, possibly his wife, mother and three daughters or sisters. Man is wearing a dark colored frock coat with a white shirt and cravat which is tied into a large bow. Older woman is in the center is wearing a dark colored dress with light colored bonnet. Woman posed to his right has a dark colored dress with white collar and brooch and a white cap. Woman to his left is wearing a dark colored dress with white lace collar and brooch. Two younger ladies in the front both have printed dresses with white lace collars and brooches. Ladies dresses are the “fan” style bodice that was popular in the 1850’s.

Image is clear with very good contrast. Some light oxidation has occurred. Below image is a label which reads, “MONDAY, 29TH SEPTEMBER, 1856”.

Image comes housed in full leatherette case, which is in very good condition, but for a piece of the covering on the spine that tore and was repaired. Case is lined in dark red velvet with an embossed design. Decorative brass mat surrounds the image. [sl]
