FULL PLATE AMBROTYPE OF AN OLDER WOMAN IN DOUBLE VIEW CASE - MAT MARKED “BRADY”

$750.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: P14169

Very nice, clean, clear, ambrotype of an older woman wearing a dark dress and dark lace shawl and dark fingerless gloves. She also wears a white lace collar with a brooch. On her head is a white lace headpiece.

Clarity and contrast are outstanding. Image has a plain brass mat and the usual decorative stamped brass frame. Mat is stamped at lower right corner “CUTTING’S PATENT/ BRADY/ JULY 4 & 11 1854.”

Image is housed in a case that allows the viewer to observe the image from either the left or the right side. The photograph is in a central frame with lids that open and close on each side. One lid is still attached and one has come loose. Both still have their original black felt pillow. Both brass closures are also present. Exterior of the case shows wear from rubbing, storage and age.

A very interesting case and a well-done image.  [AD]
