Image is a bust view of a young Union soldier wearing an enlisted man’s kepi, high-collared white shirt, and dark sack coat with a matching dark military vest. All visible buttons have a touch of gilt and the subjects cheeks are tinted red. The image is very clear but just a little dark in contrast. It comes with a full brass mat and frame and comes housed in a full thermoplastic case with a raised scroll design on the front and a geometric design on the reverse. The case is in excellent clean condition.
Folded inside the case is a small slip of paper with a period ink inscription that reads “JAMES CLARK.” Obviously the name is too common to try and track down more information. There is another name written in period pencil on the case behind the image. It reads “WM. L. STAG.” A search of this name also yielded no results.
