Offered is a very clear ¼ plate tintype of a Union musician. In this 3/4 length view, the soldier is seated in a chair holding an over-the-shoulder alto horn. He is wearing a frock coat with piping on the collar and sleeves over a vest. Interesting cloth-like epaulettes on his shoulders. Image has a moderately dark area above the subjects head; there is also a less dark area extending from around his mouth to the lower right, just to the right of alto horn. There is also a very minor dent in this area which does not greatly detract from the image. Case is an excellent condition, period gutta-percha case. Beautiful green velvet interior also in excellent condition. Full brass mat shows some soiling.
