This is a 1/6 plate tintype of a Union soldier wearing a nine-button frock coat and a vest. The photo is clear with good contrast. The man’s cheeks and coat buttons have been tinted. The image comes with a standard style brass mat and frame in good condition.
The gutta purcha “Union case” is in excellent condition. It is free of chips and wear and has only a single hairline crack at the clasp. The interior has a crushed green velvet pad and lining. The decorations on the outside of the two halves of the case are mismatched, each side featuring a different raised pattern. [jet]
