Image shows two men seated side by side.
The subject on the left sits with his legs crossed holding a light colored slouch hat in his lap. He wears a white shirt, a dark commercially manufactured sack coat with a turned back lapel and military buttons. Visible on each shoulder are Captains rank insignia, minus the straps. He also wears dark trousers, minus the leg stripe, and boots.
The subject on the right is dressed in a regulation uniform. He wears a dark single breasted frock coat with black felt collar and 1st Lieutenant shoulder straps with a dark rank field that may indicate a staff officer. He also wears dark trousers with a light, thin leg stripe. In his haste he has buttoned the second button from the top through the top buttonhole. He rests his hands on his lap and balances a medium colored slouch hat on his knee.
Image is clear with good contrast. It comes housed in a brass mat and frame with scroll decoration and a full leather case that shows some light wear on the exterior and a repaired hinge. [ad]
